My day today was crazy busy...Tuesdays are my mandatory office day, payroll, bills, taxes, etc. I had to run to find some material for a building, make calls, schedule drops, and this was after the kids got dropped off at summer school but before picking them up, oh, and I still have a 3 year old and a 5 month old home while I do this. Then when I picked the kids up, grocery shop before getting home just in time to nurse, make supper, and get kids ready for Tball and Pitchball. Grandma and Papa came to visit after the game and it was after 9 when I got baby to bed, then the other 3...I'm wiped...I think I should just get my PJ's on and go read before crashing...BUT, I made a committment to myself, I made a goal...it was not to miss a day of my P90X workout for this 90 day journey. SO, I put on my workout gear and headed downstairs!
Day 3, Shoulders and Arms. I realize I need to get some heavier weights. I only have 5# and the only exercise it was even hard on was the "seated shoulder flys". Maybe my arms are used to more weight since I carry a 16# weight around all day, and that's when she's not in the carseat carrier! I tried to do more reps to make up for the lighter weight, and it felt too easy. Only a few of the exercises were challenging with 5#.
Well, it's now almost 11PM, and I'm sure I'll be up in an hour to feed the baby...so GOODNIGHT!

Ouch!, I mean that in a good way!
I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but I did Day 2 of P90 and it was "Plyometrics"...jump training. Yes, you pretty much do all sorts of jumps for an hour. The good thing was it was something that everyone can do, unlike pull ups. BUT, don't let that fool you that it's easy. When I was about 25 minutes into the workout I considered stopping it...I was sweating, I was tired...but I continued. And not only continued, but as we repeated a set, I strived to improve whether that be jump higher, get more in, stay with them more on double time, etc...and I did! I was very proud of myself after the workout, and when I went to go upstairs...I found my legs were like "sea legs" it was difficult to run up the stairs like usual. After I got cleaned up and ready to restart the day, I realized I needed to work my body a little more in a cool down, so I went for a walk to keep those muscles moving and it really helped.
I can feel muscles in places I really didn't know you could work, my ribcage, under my collarbone, and from yesterday...butt, legs, abs...all feeling the effects!!!!!!!
I continue to do really well with food choices, I can't wait to compare my pics in 30 days...I have no doubt I will see changes. I feel them, they're coming.
Another cool little testiment to my work here is that we were at the pond last night in back of the field, now it's not like a 1/2 mile, but it is a distance from the house, and when the kids got on their dirtbikes and Jason took Julia and Adelyn on the golf cart, I choose to run back...I was about half way before I realized I wasn't even "out of breath", I was still smiling trying to beat the golf cart! I didn't stop at all and I could tell that just in a few days, my body has gotten stronger. That might not be a "big deal" to run the length of the field without feeling out of shape to most people, but believe me...to me it was something to show me the changes happening. Last month I went for a walk with my "coach" up a pretty decent sized hill, I remember I had to really breath and it wasn't easy to even carry on a conversation. I will be there again in a few weeks and can't wait to walk that hill again to feel the difference!
Once I get a little more where I want to be, I will be posting pics and my actual numbers. Not quite ready to do that just yet. It does make me nervous that I have made this journey of mine so public...I know that people are watching, wondering when they will see the changes, wondering if I'm truly committed and if I will succeed. It's entertaining to see the different ways people approach it or feel about it. To me, I am doing this for my own purpose...it makes me push harder knowing I am being "watched".
Well, lots to do before getting kids to summer school at 8, then lots of work in the office waiting for me, and a meeting with a customer this afternoon, then Pitchball and T-Ball...somewhere in there I will fit Day 3 in.

DAY 1 of P90X
Good news and bad news...bad news first, I stepped on the scale this morning and was up a pound...not too surprising considering the extras yesterday that I normally wouldn't have. I can't let it get to me, it's normal to go up and down a few pounds...I need to get over it.
Good news..........P90X day 1 is complete. 3 of the 4 kids were at Grandmas which made it possible for me to do this uninterrupted...I can see that I will be doing these exercises mid-morning when Julia goes down for her first nap...by that time I have breakfast all done for the kids and I can send them outside to play or let them watch TV upstairs (I'm sure that will break their hearts) when they don't have summer school.
The word of the day is MODIFICATION! There is NO way I would be able to make it through all the exercises the way they are doing them. BUT, I did try to not stop (no gonna lie, I stopped a few times) but then tried another version of it to at least keep moving.
I think I need to push a little harder, I did good for my first workout in a LONG time, but I need to be more self disciplined. I could not do the decline push ups AT ALL, no way, no how...so I did the regular girly knee ones! ha ha ha.
I have to say this about the workout (today was Chest and Back and then Ab Ripper)...Tony is GREAT! He reminds you of when to inhale and exhale, and he also says "don't do it this way..." and wow, I was doing it wrong, thanks Tony! You actually stop for water breaks to keep dehydrated. The hour long C&B went a lot faster than I thought it would. I did not get my chin up bar assembled so I did the bands like the one guy, which to be honest, is probably a good way for me to start until I build up some muscle. Lots of new goals to set.
When I was ready for the Ab Ripper disc, I thought, "crap, another hour?" But I was pleasantly surprised to see it was only 15 minutes and I love how it goes from one after another, very fast paced. HOWEVER, my baby carrying belly has NO ab muscle and the first few I did fine, actually impressed with myself, although when we reversed the bicycle, I was slightly uncoordinated and needed to get back in the groove! But after the first few, we got to the ones you lay on your back and bring yourself up...ha ha ha...no chance in hell yet for me. I leaned back to keep the tension on my abs and will just have to get stronger to be able to them the correct way.
Moral of the story: I did it! I feel good, I have a good challenge ahead of me!

UGHHHHHHHHH!
Okay, so today my sister came over and I had her take my before pictures...OH MY GOSH!!! I was very depressed and upset for quite some time after. I guess it's hard to SEE things laid right in front of you.
Think of when you had make up on your face for a Halloween costume, you almost forgot about the make up, cuz you can't see it on yourself...and you feel like yourself, the same, inside. But then you pass a mirror and almost "shock" yourself by what you see...well, that' s kinda how I feel. I mean, I knew my size, and I guess when you carry a baby (or 4), once you are able to see your feet again, you feel like you're back to normal. But obviously, not the case.
I had to do some real "internal prep talk" to get my spirits up knowing that this is going to get better...I start P90X tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
The next 90 days will be a challenge, not only the workouts, but the time to do them...for example, the other day I wanted to come on and blog...I tried about 4 times, it never happened. BUT, I am committed to this and if it has to be after the baby does her EARLY morning feeding, then so be it...it's only 90 days, right? I am going to make a personal goal to myself to get my workouts in everyday, even if they have to be different times of the day!
Then we had my mom's birthday dinner. I am really trying to get my whole family on board with this change and they are very responsive to it. For the meal, we had brown rice with a stirfry of Chicken, Carrots, Peppers, Onions, and Pineapple. The worst part of it was probably the soy sauce the chicken marinated in, so all and all, it was a very healthy meal, but it seemed sooooooooo good that I felt like I was cheating! I also tried a potsticker in a half...we just baked those in a pan but I have NO idea what they cost me...
The birthday cake was a sugar free angel food cake, which I know is like nothing at all, I cut it into 12 pieces and for comparison, 1/6 of a piece of it would be 1 point in Weight Watchers, I topped mine with cut up strawberries (no sugar added) and fat free RediWhip...it was delicious and if I really added up the calories/fat/carbs/sugars, it was very low, but again, I felt like I was being so bad cuz I haven't had dessert in almost 2 weeks! I also had a SMALL sliver of Mom's strawberry rhubarb pie...it was YUMMY, but I just stuck to the sliver piece...I'm sure all these extras will break my streak here...time to buckle down again!
I wanted to go for a walk, but as everyone left, the baby got really fussy (possibly my spinach at lunch?) and I had to deal with that for an hour...so now I am about to go to bed and I feel awful, but shouldn't.
Okay, enough negative vibes...I have to think positively and get ready to BRING IT tomorrow!

Prep Day!
Today I take my before pictures :( Not looking forward to seeing those, BUT, I know this is the last day I will look like this, from here on out, my transformation will begin!
I also have my sister coming over and we are doing the fitness test, measurements, etc...all that important "before" stuff! I'm really excited! I already downloaded forms from the website to track my progress. I read through the manual for P90X and even the food book...I was happy to see I am doing a lot already in the Phase 1 "fat shredder" section...and the proof is in the scale.
Yesterday I wanted to go for a long walk to just burn some extra calories because if I lost 1 more pound, it takes me down to the next "level" on the scale...and WHOO HOO! I lost 1.5 lbs! It was a GREEEEEEEAT feeling!
Gotta go, lots to do!

I feel skinny on the inside!
It doesn't surprise me at all that when I tell Jason, family, friends, etc. that I am changing my eating and going to start working out that they kinda go "oh, good for you" and really inside think "yeah right"...because let's face it, I've been down this road before and said these things and even started, etc. But after 2 weeks of eating GOOD choices, and this last week of eating EXCELLENT, people are starting to notice that this is for real!
Yesterday we went boating, and I packed carrots and celery (with ranch and PB for kids), yogurt, gogurts for kids, and star crunches, chocolate chip granola bars, and licorice for fun snacks for the kids.
I did not have any of the bad stuff! I even opened and passed out the snacks and candy to the kids and Jason without sneeking a bite. And I didn't feel the urge to either near as bad as I thought I would.
I LOVE stepping on the scale to see what these choices are doing for me...so far 7 lbs. 1 more pound and I move into the next level down for weight! YEAH! I have exactly 20 lbs to go to my goal.
I also went tubing yesterday and thought "hmmm, wonder how sore I will be tomorrow"...NONE, which makes me wonder, "am I in better fitness shape than I thought or did I not go long enough to feel it in myarms?" At any rate, I did it for fun and not for anything else and it was a great time!
I am in the process of getting the forms for P90X printed to log my progress, and reading the manual they send to read before starting...my first official start date to work out is Sunday...looking forward to it!
So with these goals and with the progress so far, I told a friend yesterday that "I feel skinny inside" I may not be on the outside yet, but there is NO DOUBT in my mind that day is coming...and I am so excited! Eating right makes me feel inside how we should feel...no more "full gut rot" feelings for me. Although the cheese curds that passed our table yesterday smelled delicious, I could also remember the feel that grease sitting in my stomach and the "yum" turned to "yuk" real fast.
What makes me most happy this week...A friend told me she was inspired by me and ordered P90X, and my sister has began making better choices and has lost 5 lbs...she is going to be trying my higher protein, less carb eating plan and get this great feeling of accomplishment, and I'm VERY proud of her!

No DVD's Yet...
I was so hoping for my UPS guy (who Addy says "those are the bad guys" everytime she sees their truck) to bring my DVD's today...I feel like I NEED to get started before my high wears off!
You know you are serious about your eating when you have a few carbs at dinner and feel guilty the rest of the night! Ha ha! I had Chicken Breasts w/ Garlic and Carrots (no oil or butter or sauces added and they were wonderful!) BUT...I also had some stove top...I know, carbs AND processed as all get out! I did only use about 1 TBLS of butter vs the 1/4 cup they say, it left them stickier, but I'm sure it was the lack of grease that did that.
I went shopping today and got lots of eggs, ham, turkey, shrimp, veggies, berries, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I also got some "rice crisps" which aren't "good" for you, but when I am really craving chips, they will be a better choice.
I can't quit everything, and believe me...giving up candy was hard that first couple days, more habit breaking than anything...I'm still shocked at how much crap I ate in one day before, YUK!
A friend of mine wrote me that I inspired her and she is going to start P90X too! And my sister and neice want to do it with me too...I'm so happy others are joining up to a stronger, healthier life! It truly keeps me going more and more!
I'm sure after I actually start the workouts that I will be like "what the hell was I excited about?" but when I see the results, I will probably get addicted, kinda the way I am!
Goodnight! I look forward to my egg white/ham/onion omelet tomorrow!

Over the Weekend
I am happy to announce that I have really done better than I thought I could considering the events of the weekend.
On Saturday, we had our family reunion. Lots and lots of pastas, snacks, desserts, dips, etc. I knew this going to the park, so I stopped and picked up Cottage Cheese and Carrots. I had a lot of fruit and vegetables, cottage cheese, salad, and a hamburger without the bun. To satisfy the want for the dessert table, I had a bite of Jason's bar and a very very small piece of chocoalte/nut cluster.
After the reunion, I had some family members come to the house (or Jason did anyways)! I prepared brats, a noodle salad, baked beans, chips, vegetable pizza, etc. BUT, as I was doing that, I had my baked fish from the night before and a carrot and yogurt. Then when the meal was ready, I had a little piece of the veggie pizza and took a two bites of a brat and realized I was already full. So it wasn't the best behavior, but it was better than it was set out to be for the meal!
We camped in our backyard and I brought some veggies and yogurt for me, the kids brought stuff for smores and cookies, licorice, etc. I didn't have any of the bad stuff that night...but, Sunday morning, I woke up after many interruptions in the night and had to wait for the baby to wake up, so I snuck 2 cookies...immediately I felt guilty...what was I doing? It was too late, and I'm glad I did it though, because it made me realize I didn't need that, and they weren't even "good" so now I know I can live without them no problem!
That night I was playing cards with the kids and they brought the snacks out. I thought, "red vines are fat free, let me look at what's in them..." OH MY GOODNESS! 4 red vines are 160 calories, 34 g of carbs, and 23 g of sugar...no thank you! The cookies were just as bad...my children are going to slowly be going away from this food, they just don't know it yet!
SOOOOOOOO, some good choices, some not too bad, some not too good, but overall, it was still 100% better than it would have been before my committment.
And the good news................I lost 5 pounds since making my committment. Cutting the candy, carbs, and junk food made a world of difference! I can't wait to see what happens once I start the workouts, my DVD's should be here today or tomorrow~Later!

The Committment
Today I made a committment, a promise to myself to eat better, get fit, and lose weight. This isn't the first time I've wanted to lose weight, but it is the first time I want to change my lifestyle. I'm ready!
I'll start with a little background (okay, a long background...but from here on out it will be mostly just a paragraph or two on the progress!).
It seems like I have been talking about really getting in shape forever, and in a way I guess I have been. I remember being in 8th grade and my friend and I saying "if we hit 100 pounds, we're going on a diet." Scary how society can do that to teenagers, huh?
Well, I guess I've never been REALLY overweight, and never REALLY skinny. A good average most my life.
My sophomore year of college I all of a sudden slimmed to my lowest, and it wasn't healthy eating, I can promise you that! My body just changed on it's own and I was able to go into any store, pick a size 5 jean, most any shirt, and it fit and looked good. I stayed that way until I had our first child in 2002, which I gained 40 lbs during the pregnancy. But most of it was coming off nicely and I was getting into my regular clothes, just in time to find out we were having another baby...and then it was a struggle from there. I got lovehandles, or the new age word: Muffintop! YIKES!
The next few years I was up and down but never too far. Not really happy but not too upset, just enough to complain and make jokes about my body...figuring one day I'd get back into shape. I would go through stages where I'd workout, eat right, lose weight...then when the vacation or reason for it was over, I'd slip back. But like I said, it wasn't like 20 lb difference, so I wasn't too concerned.
Then I had our 3rd child in 2007, again gained 40 lbs, that's my prego weight gain I guess! When she was 1, I was done nursing...and felt a need to get my body back. I had made the decision to be done having children and was very content with my family.
In December 2008 my sitter and I began eating better and working on the elliptical. As we did that, we got more into we wanted to do more. We got Barry's Bootcamp workout routine and stuck to it, and it was working...in one month, we each lost 10 lbs and were getting slimmer, fitting into clothes I haven't been able to wear in years. It felt great! By mid February I was at the lowest I had been since 2002, only 7 lbs from my goal. I remember this because it was our trip to New Orleans and I could wear shorts again! yeah!
But when the trip was over, the stress of work took it's toll on me and I began gaining again, stopped working out, and got caught in this "slump". I gained 8 lbs, and clothes weren't fitting again. Then in May I found out I was pregnant...oops! Well, needless to say, I was terrible...I tried to do good, but when I saw the same weight gain as the previous 3, I just gave up...and gained 40 lbs again (big surprise!) When we told the kids we were having another baby, Sam said, "Mama, you worked SO hard to get a skinny tummy and here comes another baby!"
Well, that baby is now 5 months old...I have only lost 30 lbs. to date. And I'm bigger than I've ever been (not pregnant of course) in my life...it has really affected me, not only physically, but mentally. I see photos of me and just think, "wow, I didn't think I looked that big when I put that on." But I was, photos don't lie, neither does the scale, neither does the tight clothes. I refuse to buy bigger anything, so I wear the same few things that actually fit me...the rest hang in the closet. My husband doesn't say anything really, but I feel like he's not as attracted to me, and I can't blame him. Does that hurt? Very much! It could be just how I'm feeling though too...I've become very self-conscience about my body, and would probably take any wrong remark or look way out of context.
So...today I ordered P90X, a very intense workout. I also have allowed my friend, Dawn, a coach for P90X to be a part of this. She will be great for me, she is really bossy and accepts no excuses. This is what I need...someone to really kick my ass! Ha ha ha!
I ate NO candy, NO unhealthy snacks, cut carbs which is very hard for me...I LOVE POTATOES! I drank lots and lots of water, which I do anyways, but I definately increased it.
I find that working out of our home means I eat a lot...everytime I went into the kitchen, I had to break that habit of taking a snack from the kids' snack drawer, so instead I had another glass of water. I had to scrape their unfinished plates down the drain rather than eat the peices off. I had to ask myself "are you hungry, really?" And realize I was eating A LOT when I didn't need to be.
This journey will be a struggle, probably more in my head than the workouts really...it's tough to break habits, it's hard to learn to eat to fuel your body when all your life eating was the "event". I put myself in a million scenerios today and practiced making the right choice. I'm ready for the challenge, I'm excited to see the changes, and thrilled to know I will feel great and have more energy.
Finally, my goals:
I want to run and like doing it. I signed up for a 5 mile run on July 21st. Just over a month away.
I want to lose a total of 27 lbs.
I want to feel comfortable, no...I want to feel GOOD about my body!
